{"id":3265,"date":"2022-06-13T03:41:09","date_gmt":"2022-06-13T03:41:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/scientificasia.org\/?p=3265"},"modified":"2022-06-13T03:41:10","modified_gmt":"2022-06-13T03:41:10","slug":"scientists-discovered-optimal-dog-feeding-schedule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scientificasia.org\/index.php\/2022\/06\/13\/scientists-discovered-optimal-dog-feeding-schedule\/","title":{"rendered":"Scientists discovered Optimal dog feeding schedule"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The results of a new study revealing just how often you should feed your dog have come as a bit of a shock to researchers, who admit they felt \u2018surprised\u2019 by their findings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new study, published in GeroScience last week, saw a team of scientists examine data, collected by The Dog Aging Project since 2019, covering dogs of all ages, sizes, and breeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The information from more than 10,000 dogs was analyzed, to look for associations between diet and health conditions, such as skin, orthopedic, kidney, urinary, liver, cardiac, and neurological disorders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Scientists discovered Optimal dog feeding schedule\" width=\"770\" height=\"433\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DCA5xJieFcM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The results proved to be intriguing, with the study suggesting that dogs fed, just once a day have fewer physical health issues, and better cognitive scores, compared to dogs fed more frequently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The researchers explained in the study\u2019s abstract: Controlling for sex, age, breed, and other potential confounders, we found that dogs fed once daily, rather than more frequently had lower mean scores on a cognitive dysfunction scale, and lower odds of having gastrointestinal, dental, orthopedic, kidney\/urinary, and liver\/pancreas disorders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, we find that once daily feeding is associated with better health in multiple domains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rationale for twice-daily feeding in dogs is obscure, and our study suggests that more frequent feeding may, in fact, be suboptimal for several age-related health outcomes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The results of a new study revealing just how often you should feed your dog have come as a bit of a shock to researchers, who admit they felt \u2018surprised\u2019 by their findings.
